English has no real equivalent to Russian's aspect system, so an English speaker learning to conjugate Russian verbs usually treats aspect as an afterthought and focuses only on getting the person and tense right. That habit works fine in the present tense, since only imperfective verbs exist there, but it breaks down the moment past or future tense comes up. Say читал when the sentence actually needs прочитал and a Russian listener hears "I was reading a book" when the speaker meant "I finished the book," a small swap that changes the whole meaning of the sentence, not just its tone. Most Russian verbs come in a pair like this, one imperfective for ongoing, repeated, or general action, one perfective for something completed, and picking the wrong half of the pair is one of the most common mistakes an English-speaking learner makes.

Verb or topic is [VERB_TOPIC] (a specific pair like "читать / прочитать" or a theme like "daily routine verbs"). Tense is [TENSE:select:Present tense (imperfective only),Past tense,Future tense]. Aspect focus is [ASPECT_FOCUS:select:Imperfective only,Perfective only,Both aspects side by side]. I need [DRILL_COUNT:number:10-40] items.

Build present tense items across all six person and number combinations, я, ты, он/она/оно, мы, вы, они, showing the pronoun and infinitive on one side and the conjugated form held back until answered.

For past tense, drop person from the drill entirely and build items around gender and number instead. Russian past tense verbs agree with the grammatical gender and number of the subject rather than with who's speaking, я читал for a male speaker, я читала for a female speaker, and studying it as if person mattered here just teaches the wrong pattern.

When Both aspects side by side is selected, show the same context sentence built twice, once with the imperfective verb and once with the perfective, and explain in plain terms what changes in meaning between the two, not just that the ending looks different.

Cross-check any irregular or unpredictable perfective formation against the actual dictionary pair rather than assuming a prefix always does the job, since some common verbs form their perfective half through a completely different root instead of a prefix.
