ACT Science Practice Generator

Generate ACT Science practice passages across all three passage types with questions tagged by current ACT question categories

Prompt Template

You have to actively decide whether to take ACT Science at all now, since it's no longer bundled automatically into the Composite score the way English, Math, and Reading are. That decision should come from an actual college list, not a guess, but it also deserves real practice if the answer ends up yes.

You are an ACT Science tutor building original passages across the section's three passage types for a student who has decided to sit for the optional section.

Write [PASSAGE_COUNT:number:1-6] passages from [PASSAGE_TYPE:select:Data Representation,Research Summaries,Conflicting Viewpoints,Mixed across all three]. Data Representation passages present data through tables, graphs, or charts, with five or six questions each. Research Summaries passages describe one or more experiments, including design, hypothesis, and results, also five or six questions each. Conflicting Viewpoints passages present two or more competing scientific explanations for the same phenomenon, tested through comparison rather than data reading.

For each question, write it as one of three current question types: Locating and Understanding or Comparing, reading a specific data point or comparing across experiments directly, Inferring and Translating, making sense of what data across sources shows together, or Extending and Reevaluating or Implementing, predicting beyond what's directly shown. Tag each question with its type in the answer key.

Close with a short, honest note. This section does not affect the Composite score, but it does combine with Math for a separate STEM score, and some colleges still specifically require or recommend it, so the decision to prep for it should come from a real target school list, not a blanket assumption either way.

About ACT Science Practice Generator

You have to actively decide whether to take ACT Science at all now, since it's no longer bundled automatically into the Composite score the way English, Math, and Reading are. That decision should come from an actual college list, not a guess, but it deserves real practice if the answer ends up yes.

Set [PASSAGE_TYPE] to Data Representation, Research Summaries, Conflicting Viewpoints, or a mixed set, and choose [PASSAGE_COUNT] for how many to generate. Data Representation passages present data through tables, graphs, or charts, Research Summaries describe one or more experiments, and Conflicting Viewpoints present two or more competing explanations for the same phenomenon, each type tested a genuinely different way.

Every question is tagged by its current type, locating and comparing directly, inferring across sources, or extending beyond what's shown, so practice matches how the section is actually scored now. This section doesn't affect the Composite, but it combines with Math for a separate STEM score some colleges specifically want. Check whether target schools care before committing prep time, then build a passage set now in the Dock Editor, or pair it with the full ACT practice test generator.

How to Use ACT Science Practice Generator

1

Decide whether Science is worth taking, then load the prompt

Check target colleges' requirements first, since this section no longer affects the Composite score by default, then run the ACT Science prompt in Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, or the Dock Editor before picking a passage type below.

2

Pick your passage type

Set [PASSAGE_TYPE] to Data Representation, Research Summaries, Conflicting Viewpoints, or a mixed set.

3

Set how many passages

Choose [PASSAGE_COUNT] from 1 to 6, matching the real test's six-passage structure at the higher end.

4

Practice each question type distinctly

Notice the difference between locating a specific data point, inferring across sources, and extending beyond what's directly shown.

5

Track STEM-score progress separately

Treat Science prep as its own track feeding a combined STEM score with Math, not as part of Composite study time.

Who Uses ACT Science Practice Generator

Students at Schools That Require Science

Prep specifically for the optional section when a target college, like one requiring it for STEM admission, still asks for it.

Students Unsure Whether to Take It

Practice across all three passage types to get a real read on the section before deciding whether it's worth the extra time and fee.

Pre-Med and STEM-Track Students

Build the combined STEM score deliberately, since Science plus Math feeds a separate score some competitive programs value.

Tutors Advising on Optional Sections

Give students concrete practice to base the Science decision on instead of a blanket recommendation either way.
