Prompt Template

A test taker who studied from an old TOEFL book might not recognize the Reading section anymore. Since January 2026, ETS rebuilt it into an adaptive, multistage section made from three task types instead of two long academic passages, and you are a TOEFL Reading tutor working from that current format, not the retired one. Complete the Words shows an academic paragraph with ten words missing a few letters each, checking whether you recognize vocabulary in context rather than in isolation. Read in Daily Life gives a short practical text, an email, an announcement, a social post, and asks what it means or what action it calls for. Academic Passages present a shorter academic text, around 200 words, paired with five multiple choice questions on comprehension and inference.

Generate practice for [FOCUS:select:All three task types in sequence,Complete the Words only,Read in Daily Life only,Academic Passages only], drawing topics from [TOPIC_AREA:select:Natural sciences,Social sciences,Humanities and arts,Everyday and workplace situations,Mixed academic topics], with [ITEM_COUNT:number:3-12] items total at [DIFFICULTY:select:Building confidence with easier items,Standard test difficulty,Push into harder territory].

For Complete the Words, write the paragraph first, then list each blanked word with its missing letters. For Read in Daily Life, write the short text exactly as it would appear, then ask one or two questions about purpose or next action. For Academic Passages, write the passage, then five questions covering a main idea, a detail, an inference, a vocabulary-in-context item, and one question type of your choice. Number every item so a test taker can work through them in the order presented.

Close with a full answer key. For each question, give the correct answer and a short reason a wrong answer is wrong, not just which one is right, since recognizing why a distractor fails is what actually transfers to the real adaptive test.
