AI Actions
An AI writing assistant that asks first. Improve, rewrite, expand, shorten, summarize, or run your own prompt, with every result staged for review before it enters the document.
Most AI writing assistants have a bias for action: press the button, watch your paragraph become someone else's paragraph. Dock's AI works on a different contract. You select a passage, run an action, and read the result in a panel beside the page. Nothing enters the document until you accept it, so the assistant assists and the authorship stays where it belongs.
Select the text and open the AI panel. The common actions:
- Improve the writing while keeping the meaning
- Rewrite the passage in a different phrasing
- Expand a short passage into something fuller
- Shorten a long passage to its essentials
- Summarize a section down to its key points
Each returns a suggestion built from your selection, not a generic paragraph on the topic.
The presets are the start. Select a passage, type your own instruction, and the AI works to it: shift the tone for a different reader, tighten one argument, translate the jargon out. If you can say what you want done to the text, that is a prompt.
Results appear in the AI panel on the right, next to your document rather than on top of it. You read the suggestion in full, then accept it into the page or discard it and try again. Because everything stages in the panel first, you are never surprised by a change you did not approve, which is rarer among writing assistants than it should be.
The point of the editor is writing you can defend: a thesis, a report, a client deliverable. That only works if every sentence is one you chose. AI actions are suggestions you review, never edits that happen to your document, and that rule holds from the first draft to the final read.
