Formatting Text
Bold, italic, headings, lists, alignment, color, highlight, superscript and subscript, links, and horizontal rules in the Dock Editor.
Dock gives you the formatting a real document needs without burying it in menus. Most of it is one click on the floating toolbar or one slash command, and all of it exports cleanly to Word, PDF, and Markdown.
Select text and a small toolbar appears above the selection. From there you can apply:
- Bold and italic
- Underline
- Strikethrough
- Inline code, for short snippets inside a sentence
- Superscript and subscript, for footnote markers, exponents, and chemical formulas
- Links, by selecting text and pasting or typing a URL
The same toolbar handles text color and highlight so you can mark a passage or color-code a draft as you review it.
Structure a document with headings. Type / and choose Heading 1, Heading 2, or Heading 3, or use the slash menu shorthand. Headings show up in the document outline and in the table of contents, and they carry through to every export and to a published page.
Three list types are available from the slash menu:
- Bulleted list for unordered items
- Numbered list for ordered steps
- Task list for checkboxes you can tick off
You can nest list items by indenting, and switch a block between list types as your draft changes.
Align a paragraph or heading left, center, right, or justified. Alignment applies to the block your cursor is in.
- A block quote sets a passage off with a left border, useful for pulled quotes and excerpts.
- A horizontal rule draws a divider line between sections. Insert one from the slash menu.
Everything here is standard document formatting, so it survives export. Bold stays bold in Word, headings stay headings in Markdown, and a published page renders the same structure. For the full export and import story, see Import and Export.
