Settings and Preferences
Settings in the Dock Editor. Font style, autocomplete preferences, citation preferences, voice preferences, and the difference between document settings and user settings.
Dock has settings at two levels: preferences that apply to you across every document, and settings that belong to a single document. Knowing which is which keeps a per-paper choice from changing how all your other writing behaves.
Set the font style for the document’s writing surface. This controls how the text reads as you write, so you can pick the look you prefer to work in.
AI Autocomplete has its own settings popover:
- Length: Short (one sentence), Medium (one to two sentences), or Long (two to three sentences).
- Tone: Match document, Creative, or Concise.
- Citation awareness: let autocomplete draw on your citation library as it writes.
Set the citation style your document uses, one of the seven styles, from the citation settings. Changing the style reformats every marker and the bibliography in one move. See Citations for the full list and how switching works.
Voice Mode carries its own preferences:
- Style preset: Match document, Creative, Concise, or Custom.
- A custom instruction when you choose the Custom preset.
Your voice preferences carry across sessions until you change them.
The distinction is worth knowing:
- Document settings belong to one document. The citation style is the clearest example: one paper can use IEEE while another uses APA.
- User settings are your preferences across all your writing, such as how autocomplete and voice behave by default.
Set a per-document choice on the document, and a personal default in your preferences, and the two stay out of each other’s way.
