Tables

Insert and edit tables in the Dock Editor. Add and remove rows and columns, merge cells, and use the table toolbar, context menu, and grip handles.

Tables in Dock are built for real documents: comparison grids, data summaries, structured specs. You insert one from the slash menu and shape it with handles and a context menu, the way a word processor works.

Type / and choose Table from the slash menu. A starter grid drops into the document with the cursor in the first cell. Type across cells, and press Tab to move to the next cell.

Hover the border between two columns and drag to set the width. Columns hold the width you set, so a table with a narrow label column and a wide notes column keeps that shape.

Each row and column has a grip handle on its edge. Hover near the start of a row or the top of a column and the handle appears. From the handle you can:

  • Insert a row above or below
  • Insert a column left or right
  • Delete the row or column

Select a range of adjacent cells and use the table controls to merge them into one. Merging is useful for a header that spans several columns or a label that covers multiple rows. You can split a merged cell back apart the same way.

When your cursor is inside a table, a table toolbar gives you the common actions in one place. Right-click inside a cell to open the context menu with the same row, column, and merge controls. Use whichever is closer to hand.

Tables carry through to every format. They become real tables in Word and HTML, Markdown tables in a Markdown export, and render as a grid on a published page. For the formats Dock exports to, see Import and Export.
