Voice Mode
Dictation that writes instead of transcribing. Speak, get clean prose back in versions you choose from, preview it inline, and commit only what you pick.
The problem with most dictation software is that it succeeds. It types exactly what you said, and nobody speaks in finished prose. You get the ums, the restarts, the sentence that changed direction halfway through. Voice Mode is speech to text with a writer in the loop. What you say comes back as clean written prose, in a few versions, and only the one you pick enters the document.
Click the mic button in the footer toolbar, or press Cmd+Shift+M, and talk. Dock asks for microphone permission the first time. When you stop, the recording becomes written prose, not a raw transcript.
Dock reads the mode from what you are doing, so there is nothing to switch:
- Freeform dictates new writing at your cursor. Talk a paragraph through and it arrives as prose.
- Selection reworks text you have selected. Highlight a passage, say how you want it changed, "make this friendlier and half as long," and Dock rewrites the passage from your instruction.
If you have a selection when you start, it is selection mode; otherwise you are drafting freeform.
Both modes return a small set of versions, each with a short note on its approach. You are choosing between real alternatives, not accepting whatever the first pass produced. Read them, pick the one that sounds like you, and it goes in.
The version you are considering previews inline as gray ghost text, in place, before you commit. You see how it reads inside your document, then accept it or try another version. Nothing is written until you choose, which is the same rule everything in Dock follows.
A style setting shapes how the prose comes out:
- Match document follows the voice of what you have already written
- Creative
- Concise
- Custom, where you write your own instruction for how the prose should sound
Open the voice settings to pick your preset or write your custom instruction. The choice carries across sessions, so once the voice typing sounds like your writing, it keeps sounding like it.
Voice Mode lives in the editor, and your voice work exports like any other writing, to Word, PDF, or Markdown. To dictate and run your prompts in the text fields across the rest of your browser, Gmail, ChatGPT, Claude, add the Dock extension.
