How Stripe handles tax forms for referral earnings, what counts as reportable income, and what to expect at year end.

Referral earnings are paid as real income, so they may be reportable depending on where you live and how much you earn. AgentDock pays through Stripe Connect, which handles the tax paperwork side of payouts. This page explains what that means in practice.

Payouts run through Stripe Connect, and Stripe owns the tax-form workflow. When you set up your payout account, Stripe collects the tax information it needs, such as a W-9 for US recipients, and verifies your identity as part of that process.

Because Stripe collects this directly and securely, AgentDock does not store your tax details. You provide them once during Stripe Connect onboarding.

For US recipients who meet the reporting thresholds, Stripe issues the appropriate year-end tax form, such as a 1099, covering the payouts you received during the year. The form reflects money actually paid to you, not pending balances still inside the hold period.

Thresholds and form types are set by tax authorities and can change year to year. Stripe applies the current rules when it generates forms.

The income that matters for tax purposes is what is actually paid out to your bank, not what is sitting in pending. A commission only becomes reportable once it clears the 30-day hold, becomes available, and is withdrawn to your account.

This includes:

  • Commissions on referral conversions and renewals.
  • The first-conversion bonus.
  • Milestone bonuses.

All of these are paid through the same Stripe Connect account, so they are accounted for together.

If your legal name, address, or banking details change, update them in your Stripe Connect account. Stripe uses the information on file when it generates year-end forms, so keeping it accurate avoids delays or corrections later.

Tax treatment outside the US depends on your country. Stripe collects the relevant information for your region during onboarding and applies the reporting rules that apply where you are. As with US recipients, the responsibility for filing and paying any tax owed is yours.
