Troubleshooting
Fixes for a missing Dock button, a panel that will not open, the extension context error after an update, and how to reinstall or report a bug.
Most Dock issues come down to a disabled site, a pinned-but-hidden icon, or a page that needs a reload after a browser update. Here are the common ones and how to fix them.
If the float button does not appear next to a text box, check these in order:
- Is Dock turned off on this site? You may have chosen Turn off Dock on this site earlier. If you turned it off for the session, reload the page. If you turned it off permanently, see Settings and Preferences.
- Has the site opted out? Some sites disable Dock on certain inputs on purpose, for example code editors. This is by design. See Website Compatibility.
- Is the extension still installed and pinned? Click the puzzle-piece icon in your toolbar and confirm Dock is there. Pin it if it is hidden.
- Is the input a standard text field? Dock attaches to text areas and rich text fields. A few unusual custom inputs may not be detected.
Click the Dock icon in your toolbar to open the panel. If clicking the icon does nothing, reload the page and try again. If the icon is not visible, pin Dock from the puzzle-piece menu, covered in Install.
This message can appear right after Dock updates itself in the background. It is expected and harmless. Reload the page and the extension reconnects. You do not need to reinstall.
Another extension on the page can occasionally conflict with Dock. To check, open the same page in an incognito window with only Dock enabled. If the editor behaves there, a different extension is interfering on the normal window.
If Dock stops responding after a Chrome update, reload your open tabs. The extension picks up the new browser version on the next page load. If it still does not respond, reinstall using the steps below.
- Go to
chrome://extensionsin your address bar. - Find Dock and click Remove.
- Reinstall from the Chrome Web Store.
- Pin Dock and sign in again. Your prompts and documents are tied to your account, so they are all still there.
If something is still broken after these steps, let us know. Note the site you were on, what you expected, and what happened, then reach out through the contact page. The more detail you include, the faster we can help.
